Frequently Asked Questions

We generally recommend keeping the Medical Protection Cover on for 3 weeks for post-surgery usage. This is to ensure the surgical site is fully healed. You should have the surgical site checked by your primary care Veterinarian to make sure it is completely healed prior to removing the MPC.

We will ship your items the same day if your order reaches us before 14:00, otherwise the day after. Normally, your order will be delivered within 1-3 non-holiday working days.

Medical Protection Cover are available in 7 sizes for front legs and 9 sizes for back legs.

The Medical Protection Cover is hand washable, and can be hung to dry or dried on a low-heat cycle.

The fabric consists of 95% ScandiTex and 5% Velcro, for the hind leg version there is 75% ScandiTex, 20% neoprene and 5% Velcro. ScandiTex is our own fabric that combines durability and water resistance with stretch and breathable properties. This makes it perfect for animals that need to be outdoors but still require wound protection. ScandiTex is bite and lick safe. The fabric in our Medical Protection Covers is sewn without seams on the inside to maximize comfort.

Most dogs should not need to wear a collar in addition to the Medical Protection Cover. There are however a few exceptions for dogs that exhibit higher levels of anxiety or have a history of chewing things up. These patients have a higher risk of attempting to chew at the Medical Protection Cover, but most patients tolerate it well and leave the protection cover alone. We recommend that you watch your patient for the first few hours that the protection cover is on to see if they attempt to chew it.

Please have your dog facing away from you (tail nearest). Their left and right will be the same as ours.

Yes this works for both females and males. With males you have the option to cut an extra part out for best fit, there are clear instructions how to do this and we can also help.

The Cover attaches behind the penis, so they can wee. You can customise the fit for your male dog for extra comfort around their genitals, there are clear instructions to show you how to do this.

If the MPC sleeve is too long, cut it with scissors. Cut the length of the sleeve below or distal to the blue seam. Note! The Paw must have free movement and the MPC must not cause pressure or chafing on top of the paw.

Yes, dogs may wear two Medical Protection Covers at the same time if needed. For example, if the patient is having bilateral procedures done.

For most limb wounds, the Medical Protection Cover can replace the dog cone. For paw wounds however, the MPC cannot replace the cone. If you are unsure if the wound would be covered by the MPC, contact us or one of our retailers.

Elizabethan collars, “e-collars”, or the so-called “cone of shame” is the most common protective device for keeping your pets from scratching their wounds after a recent surgery. However, it can hinder them from sleeping, eating, drinking, and moving properly. Instead of using the cone of shame, you can opt for soft e-collars, inflatable collars, or neck control collars. These alternatives have fewer movement and vision restrictions. Another alternative you can use to ditch the cone is our special patented-designed Medical Protection Cover made of  ScandiTex®. It still protects your dog from constant licking and scratching but is more flexible and breathable for your pup, allowing them to move and play freely without worrying about their injury.

Ditch the cone!

The traditional pet cone, or elizabethan collar as it's also called, is not popular among dogs or their owners. The bulky cone limits the animals ability to move, eat and sleep comfortably. There are many reasons why the MPC is the best option for your dog.
